FAQ

Who is this course for?

The course was designed for established professional photographers of any genre who are new (or newish) to commercial photography and want to start providing photography services to small brands.

It was created with the assumption that the photographer already has an established business and is looking to add commercial photography to their services.

What kind of commercial photography is this course about?

The course is all about commercial photography for small businesses, including retail stores, entrepreneurs, product manufacturers, start-ups, restaurants, consumer services and more.

The course focuses on the business side of photography as opposed to the shooting and editing side.

The course is all about commercial photography for small businesses, including retail stores, entrepreneurs, product manufacturers, start-ups, restaurants, consumer services and more.

The Business of Commercial Advertising Photography course contains all of the content in this small biz course, and also a ton more information and resources that are relevant to shooting for mid-sized brands, ad agencies and national and global brands.

If you know you want to stick with shooting for small businesses for the duration of your commercial photography career, this small business course will be perfect for you.

If you want to be able to say “yes!” to opportunities to shoot for bigger businesses, be prepared when they reach out to you, and also learn how to target them, the Business of Commercial Advertising Photography course will be a better match for your needs.

What does the course NOT include?

The course does not include any of the following:

  • information on photography, lighting, editing or retouching how-to’s (‘how to take pictures’, ‘how to use lighting’, ‘how to edit photos’, etc)
  • information on editorial/magazine photography
  • information on selling images as stock through stock agencies (with the exception of pricing usage licenses)
  • information on working as an hourly or salaried employee photographer for a company
  • information on ‘influencer’ photography (e.g. selling space and photography on your social media accounts)

Is this printed books?

No, the course contains a wide variety of downloadable guides and documents that will be available for immediate download after you purchase it.

How do I download the files after I purchase them?

After you complete your purchase, provided you check the ‘create account’ box during checkout and don’t choose to check out as a guest, you will be automatically forwarded to a thank you page where you will see a bright blue link to your zip file download.

The thank you page also contains information on how to access your account in the future.

If you prefer to wait to download the file, you may return to your account at any time after purchase, visit the downloads tab, and click on the file name in the ‘downloads’ column. (The file is a zip file). The download link will not expire.

If you choose to check out as a guest, you can download your purchase from your order confirmation email.

You can set up an account later using the same email address you placed your order with. You just need to click the change password link on the login page and you’ll be good to go.

Can I use some of the documents in my business?

Yes.

The following documents were designed for you to use in the course of your business in a client-facing capacity:

  • model releases
  • commercial photography agreement
  • first-time clients guide (if placing on a private web page or sending to a client)
Does the course contain information specific to architectural or product photography?

Not specifically, no. However, the same business rules apply if the photos will be used commercially to advertise/market a product or service.

Whether you are taking pictures of plates of food at a local restaurant, or photographing a display at a children’s clothing store, you’ll learn what you need to successfully work with small biz clients in this course.

I had been trying for months to piece together all of the details required to provide commercial services to prospective pet businesses in my city (pet photography is my niche) as it was evident there was clearly a need. Then Jamie’s guides came along and wow! All of the information in this guide that specifically addresses smaller businesses, from detailed pricing samples, the intricacies of licensing and usage, as well as how to build ongoing relationships with these businesses is absolutely invaluable and worth every penny. Within 2 weeks of my commercial services launch, I’ve made 4 bookings and the enquiries keep coming. Don’t hesitate to buy this guide, especially if you are starting out in the commercial world. It’s a confidence booster and will save you hours of time trying to sort out all of the details on your own!

  2. Holly C.

I loved that Jamie takes the mysterious and confusing world of commercial photography for small businesses and dissects it bit by bit. I walked away with a much better understanding of, not only the commercial animal photography industry (my niche), but also of the worth of my work. I am able to intelligently talk with prospective clients about how I can help them with my images. Jamie’s courses are one of the best investments I’ve made in my education.

  3. Jo L.

I have so much to learn about commercial photography as I want to start working with other local pet-related businesses but really had no idea on even where to start, so this information is very valuable to me. There is so much information provided so I’m now setting the task to get through it all and start approaching businesses I know I can help, but ensure I get paid appropriately.

  4. Jessie W.

Most of my past photography work was in portraiture so as I continued venturing into commercial photography I felt somewhat lost…especially when it came to understanding pricing and licensing images. When I came across the opportunity to purchase the Big Commercial Photography Bundle on sale from Jamie, I jumped on it. I started with the Big Commercial Photography Guide and then onto the Small Business Guide because most of my clients are entrepreneurs or small business. EVERYTHING CLICKED (no pun intended). That guide was EXACTLY what I was looking for to help me understand pricing and the process for which I needed to hold my clients to. I feel so much more confident with my understanding of commercial photography but also I’m feeling so much better about my business. I would really really really recommend it if you work with small businesses or entrepreneurs. I truly am glad I invested in it!

  5. Melissa

I was going to buy the biggest bundle, but I feel intimidated by the thought of working with a big client, so I decided to buy this one instead. It’s perfect for my business needs for now. It’s exactly what I needed and is going to help so much when it comes to approaching businesses in my town.
